Severed Horse Head Cake for Godfather Style 30th Birthday Party

I was so sure I had pics of this process but I can't find them :( so I'll try to describe the process. About a week before baking, I made one batch of marshmallow fondant (recipe here) and colored most of it black. It's a good idea to make it ahead of time and give it a few days to set. It takes a lot of color to get a nice, deep black (tip, if you've had your colors for months buy new) but the fondant will darken as it sits. I baked 2 -1/4 sheet cakes, chocolate with suzy-q fillling, which I stacked. Prior to baking I had searched for something to use a template, there are hundreds! I found one I thought I could use but couldn't get it to print on two sheets of paper so I had to wing it. Luckily, I drew horses constantly as a kid. I filled, stacked and crumb coated the 2-1/4 sheet cakes and put them in the fridge to let the frosting set, I wanted the pieces I would be carving off to stay together so I could use some as ears or to add to areas that might...

Today is my birthday!! Yesterday Fedx delivered this :) from my beautiful daughter! I have been using an Oster Kitchen Center that is at least 30 years old and has only 2 speeds that work, if you can call them working, super fast that flings ingredients around the kitchen :) and mix or blend. The worst part is occasionally it speeds up on it's own and creates quite a mess. So, I'm sure all bakers can imagine how much I needed this! I didn't know it was coming and wasn't expecting it, what a surprise, I think I was ripping the box open before the fedx guy got off the front porch :) I didn't really have anything going yesterday, today I will try it out on the danish I do every week, but I really couldn't wait to use it. I saw some really cute cupcakes decorated for St Pat's day on Facebook and wanted to try them. I found a cake recipe on Cooks.com and tried it :( I don't recommend it, the cake is dry but the cupcakes came out of the oven very nice look...

Kearsley Boy's and Girl's Bowling-State Champs

Kearsley Boy's & Girl's Bowling Kearsley Boy's and Girl's Bowling League were State Champions this year!! State Representative Pam Faris requested a few dozen cupcakes, the league was invited to the state capitol for a little party. As usual, Pam leaves the decorating, or not decorating, up to me. I thought bowling balls and pins would be cute :) but I wanted to acknowledge the State Champions aspect too. I didn't have room for "boys and girls" but they loved them!
